Join on Zoom and learn about how before Texas Woman's University opened its doors in Denton in 1901, another institution was already championing women's education in Texas. Texas Women's College in Fort Worth — founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South — began as Polytechnic College, evolved into the Women's College for Southern Methodism, and ultimately took the name Texas Women's College in 1914. For decades, the similarity in names created confusion in archives and historical records gifted to TWU. 

It wasn't until the mid-2000s that archivists began to tease apart the two institutions' histories — and what emerged was far more than a matter of nomenclature. The story that unfolded revealed communities deeply committed to the belief that equity and access to education were not aspirational ideals but practical necessities for cities and states to thrive.
